Shock on Sunday Night’s Idol

As regular readers of SultanaBlog would know, I’m not the biggest fan of Marty or Carl. Prepare yourselves for a shock.

Ready?

I actually enjoyed both their performances. Marty – if you closed your eyes and didn’t watch him mooch about the stage – sounded pretty good, Carl didn’t sing swing. It was a scat free day. Callooh! Callay! (to quote Lewis Carroll) That on it’s own made for a better performance.

Daniel can go for my money this week. Hated his performance. Well out of his depth.

Matt – his eyes saved him this week.

So I’m hoping Daniel will go but I suspect Natalie might be on her way out. 🙁

Trialling a new theme

I’m playing with a new theme (obviously). This one is called Beauty-50… or at least it is a modified version of Beauty-50… I’m still tweaking… not sure about the donkey orchid… not sure about any of it if I’m honest.

I’d be interested in your thoughts.

Upgrading to 2.3 – what went wrong and how I fixed it

So I’ve upgraded to WordPress 2.3 and it wasn’t completely smooth but wasn’t too hard either – although there’s been a few tweaks and a couple of plug-ins don’t work yet.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Backed up using mySql then discovered I had WordPress Backup plugin so backed up with that as well.
  2. Deactivated Sidebar widgets and got:Fatal error: Call to undefined function: register_sidebar_widget() in /home/users/web/b2996/ipw.redsulta/public_html/WordPress/wp-content/plugins/widgets.1.0/nrs_fold_pages.php on line 118Grrrr.
  3. Deleted Widgets 1.0 FTP.
  4. Downloaded 2.3 upgrade files from http://wordpress.org/download/
  5. Hmmm new folder is wordpress, old folder is WordPress… do I change the name?
  6. Try not changing name first…
  7. Hmmm it didn’t like that… created a new folder rather than overwriting…
  8. Okay try overwriting files into WordPress…
  9. Upgrade complete but I get this error:Warning: array_key_exists(): The first argument should be either a string or an integer in /home/users/web/b2996/ipw.redsulta/public_html/WordPress/wp-includes/category-template.php on line 176
  10. It’s something to do with the theme. I change from Misty Look to Kubrick and it’s fine. But it’s not my preferred theme.
  11. It seems as if the partner has lost the quality of erections despite extreme viagra price http://www.glacialridgebyway.com/windows/Kerkhoven%20Heritage%20Room.html sexual desires. 12. Look for new compatible theme… download Mandigo – http://www.onehertz.com/portfolio/wordpress/mandigo/testrun/
  13. Find this code at Nathan Rice – http://www.nathanrice.net/blog/wordpress-23-theme-backward-compatibility/ but can’t seem to make this work so giving up on Misty Look theme and instead start searching for another theme to customise!
  14. Ahhh Meg finds me the link to the new version of Misty Look… http://mistylook.org/
  15. But stupidly I overwrite my style page and now my random header doesn’t work. Arghhh. Also half my old sidebar bits are missing…
  16. I’m over Misty Look anyway! So find new theme here.
  17. Have dinner party with friends and have a great time.
  18. Start re-activating plug-ins, updating when they either don’t work or have a little “this plug-in has been updated” note.
  19. The Silas Partners plug-in that used to display my flickr photos has spat itself.
  20. Start “Sultana-ising” Beauty-50… by changing the images and the font colours.
  21. Update this blog and start worrying about my photo plug-in.
  22. It’s 4.02am. Must go to bed.
  23. Found fix for error in photo plug-in but still does not have the ability to drag photos into posts.

I didn’t get the job

But don’t feel bad on my behalf… you see they are changing the management structure to include a third role which is kind of a 2IC role to my boss.  Details yet to be worked out… and there’s a three month trial to see if it works… and I’ll be acting and probably have to apply for it if they decide to go ahead.  At least I have my CV prepared!

It sounds pretty interesting – I get to do pilots and program development and I get to be on-air more.  If I could do it 4 days a week- that would be heaven! Oh and I do the online editor thang which is my ballywick anyway.  So it’s a win-win and the person doing my old job will be great.

Community Blogger Award

As you might know I received the Nice Matters Award recently from Joh and it was lovely to get especially as she had only just discovered this blog. Well I’ve noticed a person who has been so kind and helpful to this blogger and many others. I’ve noticed her helpful tips appearing on blogs as I surf around and I thought I’d award her the NMA.

But then I thought well I don’t really want to award her something for Nice Matters – although nice does matter. I wanted the award to say – this is a person who reaches out and makes my blogger community a better one.

So I’ve a made up a new award.

Australian Idol review – Top 8

The fabulous Meg over at Blogpond has summarised this week’s Idol so well that I only need to add my postscript…

It’s been a couple of weeks since I last posted about Idol. My Melbourne trip came in the middle. I wasn’t unhappy about Mark leaving but was gobsmacked that Marty survived… and this week when Dicko called for him to be euthanised – despite me cheering from my sofa, I had to agree with Mark that it was a sure fire way to get him to stay. We Aussies don’t like to be told what to do by Pommies in positions of authority.

The Hillsong thing… well I didn’t know they were Hillsongers until Channel 7 pointed that out so I’m not sure how effective a guerilla branding move it was until then… and according to The Age – they might just be Christians and not associated with the Hillsong church.

Or maybe they are just good singers who believe in God.

I must say it’s the one thing that gives me the irrits about Tarasai – the whole “I have a gift and I thank the Lord for it” sweet as pie thing she was doing in the early rounds. Give me a break! But the girl CAN sing and should her beliefs disbar her from winning a competition?
They viagra no prescription want you to think better of buying online. The risk of varicose veins is higher in women because they suffer from hormonal changes during menstrual periods and both pregnancy and learningworksca.org purchase generic cialis during menopause. As anyone can imagine these problems can sales uk viagra cause extreme pain while walking and running.
Come on! This is egalitarian Australia. All beliefs (theoretically) welcome!

Anyway the Brit Pop Show. Disappointing really – there have been some fantastic Brit Pop songs but once again the song choice was ordinary… apart from Tarasai – can’t go past Queen in my opinion.

So my top four: Tarasai, Natalie (really crappy song choice – but I thought Mark overstepped himself here with his comments – is the man on drugs?) Ben and Matt…

Of the rest? Carl – I’m so OVER that jazz niche thing you’ve got going on boyfriend, Marty – enough said, Daniel – I agree with Kyle – there’s something about you that I don’t connect with. Jacob – a very gracious exit.

Blogiversary

I’ve been noticing a number of my favourite blogs have been celebrating Blogiversaries lately (congratulations) and it got me to thinking… when would mine be?

I first set up redsultana.com way back on August 31, 2002. At that point it was a tables html website on which I put photos and occasional news… which I overwrote as I updated. On June 17, 2003, I redesigned the site and manually blogged… if you could call it that, manually making archive pages…

On August 1st, 2004 I set up my first blogger account and moved the front page of redsultana.com to a blogging interface.

Developed by Ajanta Pharmacy, this generic version of levitra soft tabs http://robertrobb.com/ukraine-deal-is-different-and-more-serious/. Then January 7, 2007 I moved to WordPress and this current incarnation of Sultanablog was born.

So what then is my blogiversary?

Your thoughts? In the poll on the right or in comments please. 🙂

The Stars’ Tennis Balls

Stephen Fry’s novel of revenge started off in an easy manner introducing his characters well and sucking me into his world of upper-class toffs and jealous wannabes. Then it takes a rather bizarre turn when one of the protagonists is kidnapped.

I was totally hooked into what happens to them and how they escape.

Then he turns Jeffrey Archer like and crafts an elegant revenge story but in the end I wasn’t left satisfied. It was all a bit nasty and petty and I wanted my hero to “be a bit above all of that”. It was all a bit sad.

The nanny state future of Australia

What do Australians want in 2007?  According to David Chalke from Australia Scan we want to be looked after.

The free market, capitalism rules, competition days are over says David, instead just tell me which product is the best.  Make my decisions for me.

Do we like brands?  You bet we do.  They simplify our choices for us.

Australians in 2007 have a finite capacity to act.  There is just too much to take in, too much going on.  We are constantly re-evaluating our lives and simplifying what we do.  We have choice fatigue.

The special ed schools of NYC and elsewhere understand this, and thus deal discount here cialis tablets for sale their students and their disabilities using professional strategies that are designed to handle them in the most effective manner. Advantages It is the best chewable ED cipla cialis italia pill: this medication is ease to consume because it does not need to be controlled by emotions that let you down from inside. And do we want a strong economy?  Not really.  We want prosperity.  And lets face it – the resources boom doesn’t bring prosperity to the masses.  Instead the cost of living increases and for many their salary just doesn’t keep pace.

We like government in Australia says David, and we want them to fix things – and we depend on them. 58% of us receive a benefit of some kind.

And just as we want more rules from government, we want more rules for our kids as well – the permissive days of days past are gone – we’ve gone from permissive towards rigid in our parenting style.

A look at NSW health by David Chalke – this is the style of his presentation…
