Kirstin and Drew get married

November 29, 2004

It was a beautiful wedding. My eyes brimmed as Kirstin walked through the chapel doors on the arm of her father and a tear actually rolled down my cheek during Drew’s speech at the reception.

Kirstin looked stunning in a cream duchess satin gown with a beaded bodice and detail on the skirt, a full length veil and tiara. And the boys looked fabulous in their kilts. It was also a great party with the dance floor heaving until the midnight hour chimed.

Hear the interview

Listen to Deb’s wedding interview - from last week.

We had had a lovely day. Nippers in the morning - well nippers for the kids, Rory and I had coffee on the strip in Cottesloe. Then we went to a preview of Ella Enchanted - the new movie starring Anne Hathaway - it was such fun! I laughed out loud a lot… and the kids liked it too.

Lettuce Deliver

November 25, 2004

I don’t normally plug services on my blog - well… apart from Mum, her massages are awesome and should be compulsary - but I am so impressed with my friend Verity that I feel I just have to tell you about her new business.

Now this would work for you if you - or your partner - live or work in the inner city. VJ has started a little business called Lettuce Deliver and what she does is go to the markets early on a Thursday morning (and who can be bothered doing that!) and she buys fresh fruit and veges and delivers them.

I love it because I am time poor and I hate shopping. I’m also fussy when it comes to my fruit and veg and so online shopping hasn’t worked out for me. The thing is, I trust VJ to pick out great f&v because if anything, she is fussier than me! I get about $30 worth a week and I give VJ a rough idea of what I want.

This week we got avocados - delicious medium-large Hass - 3 for $4.95 - and nectarines, bananas, fuji apples, pears, mangoes, cucumber, cherry and normal tomatoes, capsicum, green beans, carrots and of course lettuce!

The other great thing about it is I end up trying varieties and fruit that perhaps I wouldn’t normally try. Now that’s because I am lazy. I am a random shopper anyway so this works for me. You can be more prescriptive as to what you want.

One final advantage. The veges come in a styrofoam esky which you swap over each week but in the meantime get to keep in your car for buying icecream and beer. What could be better than that!

Anyway if you’re interested, you can email Veej - vj[at]swiftdsl.com.au (obviously the [at] is actually the @ symbol) - now time for a nectarine I think!

Is there anything nicer than a happy child?

November 24, 2004

Hugo is ten. And happy.

Imogen is 7. She is a little jealous.

Ah well can’t win them all.

My son is ten

November 24, 2004

I have a ten year old son. Wow. That is quite amazing. He is a bit overwhelmed with being ten too. Double figures.

Does that make me grown up now?

Goodbye Eyes

November 23, 2004

Well it’s been more than a year since I came up with the “Eyes” banner and to be frank I’m over it. There are still a few older pages which have the eyes so if you miss them you can always check out the archives.

I’ve been “fiddling” with the forum and gallery pages too and had partial success in customising them over to the new look. Mind you it has taken HOURS.

Anyway that’ll do for now. Good night… er morning.

Go Casey!

November 21, 2004

I don’t want to say I told you so but it has been documented in this blog time and time again how great this 16-year-old Bankstown girl is! Casey has won Australian Idol. Yay!

Also tonight we had the pleasure of Martin Edwards’s company. Martin and his family used to live down the road and are now back in England. And Katharine - thanks for the earrings - they are gorgeous!

So it’s been a good night - catch up with Martin and my Idol fave taking the crown - who could ask for more?

Wedded Bliss

November 21, 2004

Well we’ve just got back from Deb and Gerard’s wedding in Boyanup. Hugo’s in the pool, Imogen is in the shower, Mandi is at the Archetrek course and Rory is resting after all that driving.

It is HOT today 34.5 degrees as we speak 0.2 of a degree below the maximum. Summer is here.

The wedding was lovely - we travelled down to Boyanup - about 18 k south east of Bunbury and stayed at the Meadowbrook Estate. Our room was the Owl’s nest in Toad Hall and it wasn’t really ready for occupation - dust everywhere. However it beat having to drive to Bunbury and we shared babysitters with another couple staying there so we lived with dust.

I’ve put the photos in the gallery for you to have a look at.

On the way home we went for a drive around Bunbury. It has changed so much since I lived there nearly 14 years ago. Now we just drive past it! There are big houses on the water that could have been transplanted from Hillarys. A frightening sign of the scene in the future - horrible overdone Tuscan style monstrosities filling every square metre on the tiny squashed in blocks. Yuck. If you don’t know what I mean… Cast your eyes west as you cross over the Port Bouvard Bridge just past Mandurah.

Farewell James

November 19, 2004

Well it’s been an interesting year at work with my boss taking long service leave and an untried interloper from ‘tother side taking his place!

Turned out that I have a lot in common with said interloper who like me has had a blog for ages (longer than me even!!) and has been involved in the ABC’s internet since the early days too.

Like me James takes his camera EVERYWHERE (if there is an event without photos… did it really happen??) and today as we said goodbye (see you Monday) the camera was in evidence. Check out his gallery here ยป

Are you SURE you want to go back to Sydney James? We’ll miss you.

Took Hugo and Mandi with me to the Subi Hotel… not sure what Hugo made of the experience but Mandi and I had a good time!

Deb’s getting married!

November 14, 2004

Today I went with 15 other girls to a lunch to celebrate our friend Deb’s upcoming nuptials at the C Blu Restaurant attached to the OBH in Cottesloe. It was a postcard perfect afternoon. The sea a most gorgeous shade of turquoise, the sun shining, the wine flowing.

The food was okay (the fish of the day a little disappointing) and the restaurant is full of hard surfaces and so loud. However you can’t beat that view - it was spectacular and the company was great.

You can see photos in the gallery.

Also this weekend after going to Rally Australia (more photos in gallery) Melissa, Bevan, Rory and I went to see Bridget Jones’s Diary - The Edge of Reason. Melissa hated it and I don’t think Bevan loved it. But I liked it. It’s a bit of fun. Not meant to be high cinema and it isn’t. I was a bit disappointed it wasn’t true to the book but then in compensation we did have Hugh Grant.

Tonight we had a barbie with Evan and Abi. Our first of the season. Then watched Casey do brilliantly on Idol - Go Casey! You deserve to win girlfriend!

Firefox and me

November 12, 2004

Firefox is the latest edition of the Mozilla browser and apparently this site didn’t resolve itself in Firefox as well as it should. Thanks to Grant for pointing this out and coming up with the eventual solution… 16 emails later.

Everyone is raving about Firefox so I suppose I’ll have to give it a go… on the other hand if I don’t - you won’t think me a geek… hmmm a conundrum.
