Centre?

January 31, 2007

Just had a go at this oz politics blog.  It was very interesting.  It had me most aligned with the Greens and the Australian Democrats (who?), even though I don’t think I’ve voted for either… that could also be because I live in an electorate so blue, even Labor barely bother showing up. Thanks to Armagnac’d for the link.

I’ve been at the launch of the Blue Room View season.  I was seriously impressed.  I’ve made a date with myself to go to at the very least Chicks Will Dig You!, City of CaKe and Hope is the saddest (because the actress playing Hope reminds me of Holly and because it looks quirky.  The other productions look good too but as I think I’ve been once ever to The Blue Room (oh you philistine CB!), I’m not going to be unrealistic.

This was my first time to the launch which had quite a neat system with regard to the free drinks given out at these events… general freeloaders (actors, friends, etc) got one or two drink vouchers to use at the bar; the arts media - who lets face it - you want to get pissed so they see your launch with rosé coloured glasses - got a special lanyard with their name on it so that they got as many drinks as they could swallow.

I had a very nice glass of Jane Brook white and a glass of water, so dear reader, I recommend without fear or favour their season… for at least a look.

And did you see Bodies last night??!  omg!  I needed counselling after the obstetric scene!  How did they get that footage?!  Brilliant maybe… but bloody hell - who needs to go through that in the comfort of one’s own home?!

New Banner Artist

January 31, 2007

As you’ve probably noticed I’ve switched over to February’s feature artist with my banner.  This month it is Louise Mann who has her images on display at Little Creatures Brewery in Freo until the 19th.  Not a bad excuse to pop in for a pint of Pale Ale if you ask me…

You can find out more about Louise, and all my banner artists by checking out my Banner page.

It was also NumberOneSon’s first day at high school today.  When asked how it went he replied… “Good.”

I thought the monosylabbic answers were supposed to come next year?!

Oh yeah

January 30, 2007

Forgot to tell you… at the end of that horror day (paint/fire etc), I stood on one of my director’s chairs to force the glory vine back onto the pergola and the seat split and I twisted my ankle (not badly).

But the good news is I confronted my pool guy today about taking my chlorinator in for testing (when I didn’t ask for it), giving me a quote for an EXORBITANT amount of money - the part a lot cheaper when I checked on the internet - and leaving my pool without any chlorine on the hottest weekend of the season.

To quote our Premier, on Thursday evening I was “incandescent with rage”.

My pool is now green but the chlorinator is back - sure not working brilliantly, but back - and they threw in some extra chlorine as well.

Ahhhhh. That feels better now.

Dreams

January 30, 2007

I had a weird dream the other night.  Harry was in it.  Apparently he wasn’t dead after all - he’d just been away (for three years).  It was strange because in all those years I haven’t had the “denial” dream before.

It left me feeling unsettled.

Last day of the school holidays

January 29, 2007

And because of the hours I put in over the weekend - I get to spend it with my kids.  Sometimes life works out.

(my weekend from hell continued with a call at 11.50pm to come in and read warnings til 2am)

So tomorrow it’s haircuts and organisation and we might even tidy the house.  Maybe.

By the way… am I scary?  No. That’s right I’m not.  So anyone out there (and you know who I’m talking about… if it’s you)… I’m a pussy cat. Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hot

January 28, 2007

Hot wet

It’s been a stinking hot weekend in Perth. Temps around 40 degrees C every day, oh and please throw in some humidity just to make it more fun…

The fun started 10.30pm Friday evening when I get a call from FESA that we had four fires in and around the metro area and could I get some alerts on the radio… Two barges on the Swan, some idiots on Rotto letting of flares, a scrub fire that took out a shopping centre in Halls Head and a forest fire near Dwellingup.

Saturday was spent ferrying NumberOneSo to cricket, parties and getting school books - all the time coordinating getting alerts read and scrambling teams - I used up all my phone credit and battery! In between I decided to do a little spot painting round the house (as you do when it’s too bloody hot to go outside) and spilt about 4 litres of housepaint over my jewellery box, brand new shorts and some of Groover’s clothes too. He wasn’t best pleased but was gracious about it.

Today I slept in - only got the first call from FESA at 11.30pm. Sometimes this job has knobs on it.

Anyway I’m off to drink a glass of wine with a buddy in my second best shorts… see-ya!

Australia Day

January 26, 2007

Happy Australia Day the scene

Today we went down to City Beach for the Havaiana Thong Challenge and now we own four giant inflatable thongs - so useful.

It was great fun actually, and the money raised goes to Surf Lifesaving, so that’s okay too. And it was NumberOneSon’s idea - good one!

It was fun doing something wacky with 267 other mad Aussies on Australia Day. We even sung (badly) the national anthem.

Bring on the lamb chops… and happy Australia Day!

Where the wild things were

January 25, 2007

A beautiful wild spot in the KimberleyA wild rock in the Kimberley

John Howard’s water plans…

tick - taking the power away from all those recalcitrant eastern states to manage the Murray-Darling.

tick - throwing a lot of money at sorting out water.

But - here’s where I have my concerns - encouraging people to move to the Kimberley to farm.

The Kimberley is one of the most amazing wild spaces left in Western Australia and I for one think there is enough development up there… is he talking about relocating our cotton/rice/tobacco crops up there?  Good luck in getting those eastern-staters to move.

Anyway, how much melon can one nation eat?

New Music

January 24, 2007

Before I tell you about this new music… just wanted to vent.

We don’t have a DVD player at the moment thanks to the small girl child who lives with us.  And I foolishly somehow didn’t tape the whole “Taming of the Shrew” last Sunday night.  Anyway I secured a DVD copy, borrowed my brother’s DVD Player (which he’d lent to Mum) and started watching.  Of course I forgot to borrow the remote control and the wretched thing doesn’t have a fast forward control on the box - only play/stop/pause.  Arghhh.

Brilliant version by the way - modern take on the classic tale.  Looking forward to next week’s Midsummers Night Dream.

New music in a moment… but first I have to share (fanfare) Neil’s Garlic Prawns Recipe!

Slice your garlic and slowly roast it in olive oil on low heat in a wok til the flavour permeates the oil…

Then whack up the heat and throw in the prawns - don’t put too many in at once or they stew rather than stir fry… use raw tiger prawn meat for preference.

Yum yum yummy yum yum.  Onya Neil.

Right, now the music.  Head over to gacjezv to check out some new music by a very new emerging artist - I reckon this kid has potential.

:)

And you thought I was so unhip my legs had fallen off (apologies to D. Adams).
