Our 18th wedding anniversary saw us head to Fremantle to celebrate.

We started at the Sail and Anchor where I have to say I was disappointed with the beer list… none of my favourites on it.

I ended up with a midi of Redback, Groover had an IPL which he was very happy with.

The table needed a good wipedown.

Luckily the company was good and the atmosphere convivial.

After the beer we went for a walk around the town.

It was Sunday afternoon busy and we wandered in and out of the shops along High St all the way down to the Roundhouse where we saw a bridal party right near the spot where we first kissed all those years ago in 1990.

The Whalers’ Tunnel is now closed but that night in January it was open and we explored it together in the balmy heat of an Australian summer.

Eighteen years is a long time and there have been times when it seemed impossible that we would be here together.

But here we are, Groover cleaning the pool, me about to sew a dress… the picture of domestic harmony.

Oh and the kids?

Banned from their computers.

Maybe not so harmonious after all.

Arty farty types

Yes that would be us.

You would have seen us swilling Sav blanc… or was it Voigner… whatever – it was wet, white and in a glass and it went down easily with the best of the Western Suburbs at this year’s Opening Night party for Art in Bloom at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

Early on in the evening...

It’s a great event.

Top wine, great clothes, fabulous company dahling oh… and of course the exhibition itself which is spectacular.

For the unitiated, Art in Bloom is where florists and artists from Perth are invited to create a floral display to complement an artwork from the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

The event happens every two years and is a big fundraiser for the gallery.

And it is beautiful.

I love seeing the different interpretations… it makes you see the art in new ways.

And some of the floral tributes are incredible.

Of course it is rare for a museum to allow things like plant matter into its hallowed halls.

Imagine!

Of course quite a bit of wine was consumed and I confess I didn’t spend a lot of time appreciating the art. 

This is a friend of mine from work who did a fantastic piece – incredibly complicated and impressive I thought – he said he had had to compromise but I couldn’t see where. (btw he is not pictured in front of his work)

At 9.30pm on the dot the lights came on and we were all encouraged to leave but luckily the head of the organising committee is a dear friend and invited us (or did we invite ourselves… it’s a little hazy) to the after party where I had a lovely conversation with the wife of the head curator.

She was charming.

Afterwards, teetering on my high heels, we weaved our way through the underground bowels of the art gallery and found ourselves in the carpark.

A lovely night, a not so lovely hangover.

My Sydney adventure in photos

Finally, I have pulled my finger out of my nether regions and got around to posting some photos from our trip to Sydney… last month!

My baby waits for the Chaser to start.

One of the highlights was popping into Ultimo and watching the final Chaser recorded.

For the final they were on the set of At the Movies.

We managed to find the only seats in the audience that are never shown on film.

One of the highlights for me was watching the camera crew.

I’m really only familiar with news studios and in them the cameras are pretty much fixed in place.

On the Chaser set they are moving all the time – it’s quite exciting to watch.

So when you forget your adapter - and you have a US charger - look what you can use!

I know, I know… and odd thing to throw in but it was such a great tip from my living-in-America sister and I had forgotton my adapter.

Speaking of my sister… I do look rather tanned but that could have been the make-up…

The girls LOVED Wicked! (and I did too)

We went to see Wicked! And I heartily recommend it – really good fun for all ages… well… maybe not really little ones… and it is better if you are familiar with the story of the Wizard of Oz… but who isn’t?

So we came across this beetle… and that’s the end of that story.

Dippity is a kid magnet.

We caught up with another friend and her two daughters… my Dippity was VERY popular.

My brother thought this horrible facepaint should be immortalised in oil paint... Mum and I aren't quite so sure. 🙂

So now to the exhibition… and I have to start with the one portrait of me.

I was in facepaint for a production of The Curse of the Willy Willy.

I ask you… is it really fair to immortalise us in oil???

Dippity was delighted to teach her new cousin how to high five.

Postcard from Hobart

A recent trip to Hobart was mostly spent in conference and drinking far too much pinot noir.

We had dinner at Salamanca where we discussed all manner of secret women’s business, wandered down to a wine bar to discuss everything else until closing, we didn’t go to the casino.

Apparently on a Wednesday night the casino closes at 2am.

Fact.

Anyway I did manage to go for a walk on my free morning…

Hobart is lovely.
