On Sunday, the sky was the deepest blue:

With the traffic a nightmare – Perth was in gridlock – I decided I would do more good if I went back to work to help out.

I went to An Evening with David Sedaris to see and hear David Sedaris.

I’m never sure what to expect at author evenings… do they read… what do they read… how do they incorporate questions…

In this case, David read a few short stories, and included some new material, threw in a few choice diary entries and answered questions.

I was sitting on my own and by that of course I mean I didn’t sit next to anyone I knew – clearly I wasn’t on my own.

His Majesty’s was full and I was in the last row of the Dress Circle which was irritating because my colleague – a big Sedaris fan only got his ticket that night and ended up with a much better seat.

I am never booking through BOCS again.

You agree with me right?  That’s annoying.

But maybe they sensed his deep passion for the work, I don’t know.

I knew “the work” through This American Life – a podcast I adore.

His short stories occasionally feature and they are always pithy and amusing.

He looks just as he sounds.

As you can see the new look includes a very modern semicircular section around the front.  Long windows and curved pillars.

Very modern.

There’s also underground parking and extensive offices.

It’s a beautiful building, clearly not big enough for the congregation, hence the extension.

A lot of people go diving off Blackwell Reach – or at least they used to – it’s very deep.

There are rumours of large river sharks that live down there.

I imagine the visibility is a little “confronting”, but maybe that just means ignorance is bliss.

Anyway my morning walk meandered down to Chidley Point, which is a delightful picnic spot in Mosman Park opposite the reach.

There’s something special about seeing dolphins on your morning walk, don’t you think?

UPDATE: I just found out that the cliffs of Blackwell Reach is one of two locations that are part of Earth Cache in Western Australia. My sister is going to the Connecticut ones at the moment and inspired me to find out where they are in WA.

The other one is in the Yalgorup National Park – just south of Mandurah.

Today West Australians go to the polls to vote for or against daylight saving.

A taxi rant – it’s all about service people!

This is her problem not mine and yet… and yet…

Let me tell you the story.  I flew into Perth today from Geraldton where I’ve been the last couple of days – stories coming soon – I met so many interesting people – but anyway…

The queue for a taxi was exhaustingly long but I had my book and was quite happy to read it as I shoved my bag with my foot.  

As we waited a voice apologised over the PA system and said that taxis had been called.  

Fine, whatever… I’d got to a good bit.

Anyway eventually I’m at the front of the queue and I have a woman driver who looks friendly, she pops the boot and helps me load my small case and laptop.

“Where to love?”

“Please take me to work in the city.” I had to pick up my car.

Was it my imagination or did she sigh?

Anyway I settled back and read my book and sooner than I wanted – I’d got to another good bit – we were pulling up outside my workplace.
