Pictionary pwnage

by Cellobella on Saturday, January 14, 2012 · 5 comments

Oh yeah baby.

I confess.

I do enjoy Pictionary.

Groover bought “the family” (I think it was  really for me) Pictionary for Christmas.

Tonight we played.

And.

YOU can play along too.

What’s this?

Drawn by me... easy right?

So you’ve got that one? Answer here: flamingo

Now try this one from Groover:

Another easy one... two from two right?

Answer here: dalek

So feeling confident??

This one had number one son stumped…

Ouch... tricky?

Not so easy? Answer here: spank

But this one from my daughter I thought was BRILLIANT.

Just highlight over the space next to the answer here bit.

I guessed this in about 20 seconds.

Very clever girlie girl.

Answer here: Michael Jackson – a black guy who thinks he’s white.

Yeah yeah.

I love Pictionary.

Global domination

by Cellobella on Monday, January 3, 2011

Hmmmm Asia or Europe... who shall I pwn...?

We spent much of the afternoon and evening (and night) playing Risk.

The battle was joined.

Groover is red, Dippity is blue, Hugamuga yellow and I’m blue.

He looks like a nice chap... but looks can be deceiving...

His advice to his daughter… was killer… and Hugo and I were the victims.

I scored Asia!

At the time of this post,my sweet daughter holds the Americas, my darling husband holds Asia and Australia, Hugo is out and I am holed up in Africa with the red menace on my doorstep.

Update at 10.15pm

later in the game...

A strong postion

Winners are grinners

At 10.35 we conceded to the small one.

Gloat much?

Merry Christmas

Happy Christmas

So this is Christmas.

This year I am assured of at least getting gifts from my son and my daughter.

This is because I have bought them.

Interestingly I was commenting to the young folk at the surf shop that my son had failed to buy me a birthday present this year and they all agreed that they never bought their mothers’ presents.

What kind of generation is this?

Disappointing.

It’s not that I want them to buy me anything.

A voucher for maybe a foot massage done by them would be nice.

It really is the thought*.

Is that too much to ask?

They are sweet kids really.

Last night we watched a video together and it was lovely.

I’m just glad they they are here, healthy and whole.

Perhaps their “presence” is enough.

*Note to kids:  you do actually have to translate that thought into action. :)

My Sydney adventure in photos

by Cellobella on Monday, September 20, 2010

Finally, I have pulled my finger out of my nether regions and got around to posting some photos from our trip to Sydney… last month!

My baby waits for the Chaser to start.

One of the highlights was popping into Ultimo and watching the final Chaser recorded.

For the final they were on the set of At the Movies.

We managed to find the only seats in the audience that are never shown on film.

One of the highlights for me was watching the camera crew.

I’m really only familiar with news studios and in them the cameras are pretty much fixed in place.

On the Chaser set they are moving all the time – it’s quite exciting to watch.

So when you forget your adapter - and you have a US charger - look what you can use!

I know, I know… and odd thing to throw in but it was such a great tip from my living-in-America sister and I had forgotton my adapter.

My sister and me.

Speaking of my sister… I do look rather tanned but that could have been the make-up…

The girls LOVED Wicked! (and I did too)

We went to see Wicked! And I heartily recommend it – really good fun for all ages… well… maybe not really little ones… and it is better if you are familiar with the story of the Wizard of Oz… but who isn’t?

Cousins

My cute niece and nephew who we don’t see enough of. :)

Pretty beetle eh?

So we came across this beetle… and that’s the end of that story.

Dippity is a kid magnet.

We caught up with another friend and her two daughters… my Dippity was VERY popular.

My brother thought this horrible facepaint should be immortalised in oil paint... Mum and I aren't quite so sure. :)

So now to the exhibition… and I have to start with the one portrait of me.

I was in facepaint for a production of The Curse of the Willy Willy.

I ask you… is it really fair to immortalise us in oil???

My cute niece.

Awww isn’t she just darling?

Dippity was delighted to teach her new cousin how to high five.

A highlight for Dippity was teaching her one year old cousin how to high five.

Gil and I lived together 20 years ago when I moved to Sydney - we used to hang out at a nightclub called Rogues... anyone remember it?

So yeah… Rogues… anyone remember it?

We had a blast dancing there back in the day… er… somewhere around 1990… OMG I am SO old!

I recall wearing a tight dress by George with tassles all over it… ah but that might have to be talked about another day…

Visit to Melbourne

zani

The other weekend I dropped into Melbourne on my way to a conference to see my newest niece and drop in a Christmas present.

larazani

Here she is with my soon-to-be sister-in-law.

Isn’t she adorable! Well… they both are.

And I reckon my brother is pretty cute too.

My brother was recently on telly, featured in an Arts documentary called The Wall.

The Wall was a grey wall surrounding an outdoor area at a local mental health hospital.

Now, it looks like this:

My brother took his family and I along to see it in person.

It was the first time we had seen it in the flesh… well obviously my brother had because he was the consulting artist but the rest of us hadn’t seen it other than on film.

Close up it is very bright!

This is my favourite bit.

The design has a river running through it which kind of ties the whole piece together.

thewall_city

The designs were developed by out-patients at the clinic (I think they were outpatients) and then the group painted the wall – with direction and help from my brother who firstly transferred their designs and then helped them do the painting.

There is already some graffiti:

This is on a door that leads to the outside.

I’m not sure but I think my brother thought it rather added to the project.

Interestingly a painting of two kids skipping rope was painted over as the images distressed some of the patients.

It is a magical design.

I felt privileged to see it.

Isn’t she lovely…

How beautiful is my new little niece?!

And how clever my sister in law?

Okay… and I know you had something to do with it my brother but lets face it – your real work starts now!

Love.  Love.  Love.

Leaving Goshen

by Cellobella on Wednesday, January 2, 2008

It snowed today. Really snowed. Big thick flakes floating down, covering the black ice beneath with a soft white duvet cover.

It was beautiful.

Goshen

It was also a bit tricky getting out. The hire car, with no snow tires, slipped and slid and bogged down in the snow. Getting the suitcases up the very steep driveway was also challenging. You’d be stomping along, feeling confident when wham bam you were on your butt sliding for the bottom again.

But we eventually packed up and even had the energy to make a final snowman. A cute little fellow (check out his arse).

And then we drove back to Wilton.

Tomorrow we pick up our SUV for our roadtrip to Florida!

On not having a pet

by Cellobella on Tuesday, August 28, 2007

I never thought I’d grow up and live in a house without pets. My dog when I was growing up was a black labrador/corgi cross – think labrador face, shortish legs and stout. Her name was Hannah. I used to lie in bed of a morning and hear her thunder up the stairs, along the corridor, the door would fly open and she would leap onto the bed.

At Easter time she would sniff out our Easter Eggs and scoff them.

She was a waggy friendly dog, slightly overweight and a terror on bin day.

We also had a cats. My first cat was a black and white fluffy cat called Tinkerbell. We also had Samson – a very large ginger cat with a flatulence problem. And finally Mr B, also known as Fred. Who was grey and white and turned up in our garage with his leg caught in his collar. A visit to the vet and he was ours.

I had a mouse too, which got eaten by a kookaburra, but that was a sad little tale which I won’t go into here.

So why am I not a pet owner now? I’m a grown up. I can do what I like. I’m obviously in the minority, not having a pet.

Well I guess I’m out of practice. Groover has never been a pet owner. His father was a pilot and so they were always away – not an ideal scenario for pet owners. Also he’s allergic to cats.  And so is my orchid hunter(Hugamuga).

And the longer I live without pets the harder it is for me to like them. I’m not that keen on being sat on by affectionate cats now, and even feel slightly sneezy around them – can you catch allergies or is it low tolerance? And dogs? Well they do smell a bit and I cringe when they lick me. When our rabbit ran away, another sad tale, I was half relieved.

Does that make me a bad person? Am I depriving my children?

They never ask for a pet, well not since Butterfly ran away.

“We don’t need one because we go on holidays too often”, Says my daughter. What a practical girl. “But I wouldn’t mind fostering a pet on the holidays when we’re at home…”

Hmmm I don’t think so.

Can I imagine us ever having a pet?

If I did it would be a small yappy dog – like my brother-in-law’s Puffy. That I didn’t have to take for walks twice a day. And I’d have to work from home. I don’t think it’s fair on the dog to be out every day.

It could be a while before that happens.  Like, post-divorce. :)

Doctor Who

by Cellobella on Thursday, June 28, 2007

Just watched the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who… The Runaway Bride starring Catherine Tate. Brilliant. In fact turns out it’s the last of the old series and Saturday’s is the first of the new…

I kind of wish Catherine was always in it but will give the new girl a try on Saturday.

Having been named after a former Doctor Who girl I kind of feel a connection.

Okay I wasn’t exactly named after her, more like a spooky coincidence… I just like to think I was… Even though if I’d been her I wouldn’t have been as sappy. And, hopefully, I would have had better dress sense.

And I’ve been watching Torchwood, which of course all of you picked up as an anagram of Doctor Who way before me…

Yeah, I quite like it. The accent’s cute. It’s on a bit late though.

Finally tonight my son learned another of life’s little lessons. Empty your pockets before putting clothes in the wash and your mobile phone won’t get washed. He’s a bit upset. :(
