So a quick wrap of tonight’s Disco show:

Tarasai – great performance… didn’t like the jeans… her performance was a bit straight… could have done with a bit more sizzle as Mark puts it. Don’t like it as much listening back as I thought I would.

Ben – pretty good. Nice voice. Holding the notes just a tad too long. Didn’t get Mark’s androgeny comment though.

Mark – rocky – love the song. Did it well. A safe choice for him though and his performances are becoming a bit samey. I know most artists don’t show do several styles in the one concert but… it’s a singing competition.

Lana – the judges hate her. I thought she was about 10% underdone. I thought Mark’s suggestion she should concentrate on her leaving was rough. She should make up her own mind. She can take her exams any time. Listening in my headphones now she does sound a little weak but she’s getting there.

Jacob – cool song – I hated his outfit – looked crap. I can see what the judges mean about him not having anywhere to go with this song.

Marty – is gone for my money this week. Ruined a great song. Sounded bloody awful.

As discussed previously, usually I relate most to Kyle’s comments. Tonight he only got it once for me – and that was on Daniel. I agreed with Mark twice (unheard of) and Dicko took the words out of my mouth three times… Marcia as usual said nothing of interest.

So okay, I’ll stay with them one more week. Especially if Marty goes tomorrow night.

Last chance for Australian Idol

I’ve been trying to work out why I’m not engaged with Australian Idol this year. A favourite of mine for the last four seasons, I just can’t get excited about it this year. It’s not the judges – I quite like having both Dicko and Kyle, the hosts are the same – the kids are talented. I think it’s me.

I’m just so out of the loop of modern music. I couldn’t name two Justin Timberlake songs or one Gwen Stefani track. I’ve heard of the Arctic Monkeys and Snow Patrol but I wouldn’t be able to tell you if they sing ballads or heavy metal. It’s pathetic. Which Idol Judge do you most agree with?

Yes this is my new poll and the reason I’m asking the question is that I’ve been gobsmacked at how I’ll say to Groover – “Gee I don’t like that outfit” or “They’re not moving around enough” etc – and this particular judge will say exactly what I’ve just said.

It’s not what I’ve said – obviously I should be an Idol Judge (ha ha) – but who agrees with me!

Watching the show I’d say I was most like Dicko – I like him best of all the judges – but it’s Kyle that says what I’m thinking. Nearly. Every. Time.

Who Killed Channel 9?

Just finished Gerald Stone’s book about the fall and fall of Channel 9. I suspect it has more resonance for eastern staters… in Perth Channel 7 is the powerhouse and Channel 9 well… doesn’t cut it. I can’t remember the last time they won the news ratings.

How dumb can the housemates be?  Plenty, with the exception of Alicia who just looks as if she is.

And the producers are not exempt – if they wanted anyone else to be evicted apart from Daniela on Sunday – you know, to make it more interesting for us viewers – they should have told the housemates the deal and given them time to work out their strategies. Stupid.

Sub-culture discovered!

Today I discovered another member of the subversive Big Brother watching club at work. Yes dear friends, I am not alone! The webmistress, my regional equivalent have already revealed themselves and today I discovered a fourth… our trainee sports reporter. It was lovely discussing who might go around the water cooler today… sigh.

Groover and I so far have never “crossed the line” and actually voted for anyone (or against anyone)… so for those of you who perhaps look down your patrician noses at the commoners who watch, perhaps that is our saving grace. 🙂

In the meantime – who will go this weekend? Double eviction and up for kicking out – Thomas, Andrew, Daniella, Emma, Travis, Jamie, Rebecca… I’m hoping Thomas and Andrew go – they are the most boring… But unfortunately Daniella as an intruder will probably go and that would be boring as the spat she is having with Emma makes it a much more entertaining house. Betting odds have Emma and Daniela leaving… how dull.

I work with snobs*

I’m taking a stand at work.  I may be standing out there on my own but I am admitting to the world at large that I do watch Big Brother.  I even enjoy it.

Today we had a big reality tv bashing session and we had a lot of people look down their noses and agree that it was all very awful and why on earth would anyone watch it… this attitude obviously appeals to the over 55s. But even my younger hipper colleagues refuse to talk about it unless they have to.

Last week, there was an interesting question raised.  Should BB have told Emma that her father had died?  Even the BBC rang us up to find out what the talkback response had been and I had to tell them that no-one here wanted to talk about it.

It’s an interesting dilemma.  Would you want to know?  Would you defy the father’s wishes who said not to tell her?  How are they going to handle the news when she comes out?  Already the producers have to be careful that a message doesn’t accidentally get to her by way of an audience sign or something.

According to her brother – she did know he might not survive her time in the house.  The info was leaked – the father didn’t want his death to impact on her time one way or the other.
