What do you really want to do?

Okay okay I’m at a conference with my colleagues and okay okay it is true that at a conference you are likely to drink slightly more than you would otherwise. Am I not correct?
You know I am correct.
Well tonight after retiring to a attendee’s room we eventually discussed this question: “If you were financially able to take time off to do the one job you’ve always wanted to do - what would it be?”
Here are the answers… as I remember them:
- An English teacher to migrants who for whatever reason had to learn English at home
- An organiser of activities for latch key children
- Work with vulnerable teenagers - doing the “brat camp” thing… sort of.
What did I want to do?
If I could organise it, I would sign up for a scientific expedition. Anywhere. Somewhere in the outback perhaps.
That is my dream.
What’s yours?

You just made me think briefly about work. Curse you!!
I think my dream would be similar to yours. Science. Definitely in Australia. Maybe the Outback–although I don’t do that well in the heat.
I’d love to study insects. Maybe bull ants.
funny i was driving to work today and thinking about this.
what about a farmer i thought…. what about a water farmer?
For a while I wanted to join an archeological dig - in Egypt, Israel etc. However, at the moment I am working on a fun project that makes no money (yet) and is just what I want to do. My colleague and I just have to work out a way to make it pay…
I would start an independent book shop with a cafe where magazines were free to read!
And, it I could pull it off, I would write a novel!
I’d want to work for the ABC and go to conferences on the other side of the country, where I would drink too much and have really excellent conversations about what I would do if I could do any job I wanted.
Either that, or test party pies.
Work at the ATO maybe something in administration,
To do what you really want to do require a lot of courage and determination, but boy does it give you a feeling of achievement and fulfillment into your days.
