Best friends

When I was in grade 6 my best friend was a Scorpio like me, she was born in Canada like me, we liked the same boys and she taught me how to riffle shuffle.

In recent years we’ve lost touch but then my parents met her in a cafe down south and got her number.

I called her and tonight we caught up – it must be at least six years since we’ve talked.

She is just the same.

Her laugh took me back to those days at school where we’d play endless rounds of elastics.

And to her house where she had a pool and a trampoline.

One night we made these wild candle lantern things by dropping hot candle wax in water… or at least that’s my vague recollection.

It was so nice to see her again that we’ve made a pact to catch up properly next time I’m in town.

I can’t wait.

Meeting the new man

The ocean smooth all the way to Rottnest, which sat on the horizon, clear enough to see the lighthouse.

We met for breakfast at The Blue Duck, a restaurant Groover and I tend to avoid for some reason.

The coffee was the best I’ve tasted in a long while.

The Poshi is rarely in town these days so I grabbed the chance to catch up.

The coven was completed by our friend J whom I hadn’t seen seen for some months.

I know, you’re still getting past the six sugars in the coffee bit (but I had a spoonful and the result is quite delicious).

J’s been seeing this fellow for – well it must be close to a year – so I can only imagine that she was a little nervous about how we would react.

Not that it matters J but for the record.

I really liked him.

He’s lovely.

And if excessive amounts of sugar in his coffee is his worst vice… a keeper.
