2005

We remembered where we were last year at NYE last night – my cousin Ros’s house. This year we went down to Manners Hill Park where they had a community picnic thing happening with bouncy castles and fairy floss. The proceeds were for Ngala and they were diverting them to the Tsunami effort.

We caught up with some friends of Melissa and Bevan’s who had cooked 250 sticks of satay – they were delicious too. The kids ran amok and Rory got stuck into a five litre mix of Caprioscas. There was a fire truck there and I was very interested to get a close up view of it. Saw the jaws of life and lots of hoses – good fun. Also spoke to one of the fireys who says he’s a fireman because of the hours. Two days on days, two days on nights and then four days off. Sounds alright to me. He works at our local station and told me that when the big fire of the furniture store happened around this time last year – the engine was already called out to a bushfire. Sad because they don’t get that many fires in this neck of the woods. Thankfully.

Anyway there were fireworks at the park which were lovely and then we repaired back to our house where we watched the Abba Special – How sad is that – and had a cuppa before I retired early to bed.

Today I slept in and read a Maeve Binchy novel – I’m on holidays and I’m allowed to – then we had a family swim before a barbeque tea. I am feeling very slack especially hearing today of my brother-in-law Nigel and his wife Margurida who are travelling in convoy to Thailand from Singapore at the moment with four wheel drives full of medical supplies. I am proud to know them and wish I could be there with them.
