A photo of me at the moment would not be a pretty sight so I’m distracting you with a lovely sunset.
I am not a great patient.
I am grumpy and tired and I’ve eaten too much today.
Being home all day near a refrigerator is another bad idea.
And I’m clumsy.
As I was lying on the couch watching telly I noticed my toenails needed painting so of course I did them and watching House waited for them to dry.
Cleaning up I knock the nail polish over the floor.
The carpet.
Then I go out to get a pie for dinner – I can’t cook when I’m sick (and I’ve eaten all the leftovers in the fridge) and when I cut it open it’s chicken and mushroom not beef and stout and the kid won’t eat it.
Bad things happen in threes they say.
- I get a cold
- I knock over the nail polish (it’s hard to get off carpet you know)
- I get a dud pie
Phew… I thought I was going to have to wait for one more.

I’ve been feeling poorly over the last 24 hours. Vomiting. And I never vomit. In fact I reckon you can divide the world into vomiters and non-vomiters. Vomiting is much more stressful for a non-vomiter. Such a shock to the system.
Anyway, it’s all been a bit bleah.
Luckily I live with Groover who cheered me up with a little article from “Flowing Forward” produced by the Water Corporation‘s Communication Division.
Margaret Domurad (pictured) is wearing shit. Yes. Literally.
She collected some “biosolids” – that’s Water Corp speak for poo – and crystalised them at about 1400 degrees centigrade. She then asked a friend to make them into a necklace. Apparently it doesn’t smell.
I can’t see it taking off though. Not in a big way.

It’s hot in Perth today. Sticky, muggy, please will you just rain and get it over with, kind of hot. And we don’t have air-conditioning except for the bedroom and my computer where I have been working from home at is not in the bedroom.
I’m at home because my daughter, due to start school today at a brand new school, is sick. Was sick. Was sick with fear I think and worked herself into a knot creating a fever, headache and vomiting. She didn’t sleep last night with these symptoms and so today, reluctantly, I let her stay home.
Now that she’s better, she agrees that she probably was a little nervous.
Of course missing the first day makes it even harder for herself – but what could I do? She was fast asleep after a long night of feeling sick. And what if she really had a virus? The parents would not have thanked me.
Anyway she’s going tomorrow and in bed early tonight.
Ah thunderstorms! But they are not making things any cooler. A few spots of rain have fallen and dried before they hit the ground, baking hot after a week of stinking +35C days. (hence my title – thanks to Loz)

Junior Poshi was ill today. I took her to mum’s for some TLC and she called me at about 11am to say she felt worse.
Last time she had a tummy ache she saw the doctor who said go to emergency and she threw up and felt better and we went home.
So I picked her up, and on route to the doctor, she threw up, and when we got there the doctor still thought there was a chance of appendicitis. We waited in emergency and eventually got seen by a couple of doctors who said well… they thought it was gastro and to go home.
I was impressed with the efficiency of emergency at PMH and the friendliness and non-judgemental attitude of the staff. Thank you.
So we’re home. And I’m tired and hungry. And my house is a mess. And I don’t want to make dinner. Can you give a kid with gastro pizza?

So my boy came down with a sudden flu on Wednesday. He’s been hacking his lungs up. He’s had a high fever barely controlled by Panadol and this morning I hear this on the news:
Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth has experienced an influx of young patients with flu-like symptoms following the deaths of three young children this week. It has been confirmed one of them died from influenza A, and doctors suspect the other two died from the same virus. Two of them were aged two, one was four. They say that they do get deaths from the elderly and already infirm but it’s unusual to get flu deaths from otherwise healthy children.
Now my boy is 12 but he was really lethargic and sicker than I’ve seen him in years.
I rushed into his bedroom this morning just to make sure he was alive (!!) and he is. And he is even feeling better… slightly better… he feels like he’s improving.
So we’re not going to see the GP this morning as I’m sure there are others with younger kids whose parents will be panicking more than me. Luckily he is the Vitamin C kid – eating more mandarins than I thought humanly possible.
And of course there is my chicken soup.
Perhaps one of the best remedies so far has been Mum’s essential oils. She came over on Thursday with a potion that we’ve been applying to the tops of his feet, chest and back and also inhaling and he is coming good. Now I just want to find my diffuser and get some more supplies in!

I’ve come home early today. I think I’m coming down with Hugamuga’s Flu. He was hit hard Wednesday night and has a cough that lifts the rafters. His slight frame seems too fragile for such a nasty cold. He’s been in bed ever since. Well… in bed, on the computer and lying in front of the heater eating mandarins mostly. I think a hundred mandarins is all he’s eaten in the last two days.
So I’ve come home early with droopy eyes and a thick head to make sure I don’t get what he’s got or for that matter give what he’s got to the rest of the troops. I can’t be sick as I’m stepping into my boss’s shoes (luckily a size 9 like me) for the next week and then I get a week off.
I’ve made fresh orange and lemon juice and started to make Chicken Soup to augment the young fellow’s diet. Look at me. A proper mum who cares for her kids when they are sick. Or at least also when she is sick. Groover was at home yesterday so I wasn’t completely derelict in my duty.
Bring on the Chicken Soup and then to bed. Cotton corner is calling.
