Wildflowers of Karratha

mulla-mulla

I’ve just returned from a short visit to Karratha.  Clear blue skies, temperatures in the high 20s, low 30s.  It was nice to feel hot.

But it just gets hotter later in the year.  Too hot.

What struck me this time coming in from the airport were the roadsides covered with purple flowers.

Mulla mulla.

Or lamb’s tails.

When I got out of the car to take a few snaps I also noticed another wildflower.

I stayed at the All Seasons hotel.  Sounds flash doesn’t it?

It’s not.

The mold smell pouring out of the air-conditioning made me feel as if I was breathing in death – not helped by watching The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas on the small flat screen television.

In the end I slept up against the open window breathing in the warm night air.

I think the caravan park would be a better option next time.

  1. In Karratha try the Best Western next time, best to have a good lead time, accommodation is tricky in the town or for a real drop out after a day in the office, a houseboat on the Archipelago for a night, you will get the most amazing sunsets/sunrise and have the chance to really unwind. Not somnething you get to do everyday and for life expereince value well worth the dollars .

  2. The Houseboat you would not regret, a great place to stop traffic and do something you would not get the chance to do normally..imagine the amazing blog you could do out there in the Bay…and the pics. It is a very simple existence and wonderful for the soul and mind.
Wake up in the morning to the smell of baking bread from the galley the salty air and fresh ocean breeze, amazing sunrise then dive into the pristine water and swim a lap or two of the boat.
    BLISSSSSSSSS…..
You would be the envy of your work mates for sure…there’s something about thinking laterally that invites chance.
    Totally love your blog
    xx

  3. Did you report the mould smell? They need to clean the system. Airborne mould spores can cause serious distress to asthmatics and sinusy people like me.
