The land of bland

by Cellobella on Saturday, March 3, 2007

No-one could call West Australian politics bland this week, what with the revelations from the CCC, the fall-out federally – today a Federal Liberal Minister resigned to the back bench, and Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd is fighting for his credibility – and we are desperately seeking ministerial material for our State front bench.  Ms Ravlich getting the nod after Bowler resigned from the front bench and party.

But with such colourful characters as Brian Burke and Julian Grill on the scene and the ensuing carnage – could we be driven toward the “blandest thing on the menu” in the next election?

Will we be running to the least scary, least likely to do anything untoward, most likely to be school hall monitor?

Could we be in for “caretaker” government?

Oh please, let it not be so!

Watching Keating! the musical this week reminded me of what we are missing:  Interesting characters on the main stage.  Okay, we probably don’t want politicians as “interesting” as Mark Latham, but surely we want something more than Kevin (yawn) Rudd.

The opposition seem to be fighting boring with boring.  Could that really be what Australia wants?

At the moment I’m willing to vote for the party that puts up someone who is entertaining and interesting – which leaves me with very slim pickings.  Will I have to vote for Smirky Costello?
