I wish they would make the players wear white in the Australian Open. It just doesn’t look like proper tennis. It looks like two mates out for a hit. Admittedly they look like good tennis players and mates would rarely find an audience to watch them… but still. It just doesn’t look classy.
And it’s a Grand Slam tournament not some poxy lead-up match.
While I’m on the subject of things I can’t change – but maybe my voice might add to enough other voices to make a difference – David Hicks.
What is the deal there? Five years in captivity and not even charged. The last 12 months in solitary confinement. That is torture. I don’t even care what he is supposed to have done anymore. Enough is enough. As his American military lawyer, Major Michael Mori, said on the 7.30 report tonight, Americans wouldn’t stand for an American to be incarcerated in Guantanamo Bay – so why do we allow an Australian.
The PM has painted himself into a corner by saying he trusts the US Administration to do what is right, but he needs to un-paint himself. So what that we don’t have the laws here to hold him either. Get him on Australian soil and tried in an international court. The British got their guys out after all.
Enough is enough Mr Howard!
I’m writing him a letter and I urge you to do the same – you can add to or edit Amnesty’s form letter here.
By the by – I like that Michael Mori – very impressive.
